John Cardiel needs no introduction, but as the Gonz put it: “The Original Coolest”.
A living legend, he embodies skateboarding in it’s rawest form. Always charging full speed, John suffered a serious back injury in 2003 and was told he’d never walk again. He proved everyone wrong and emerged on two wheels in the fixed gear film Macaframa. Nowadays running his own bike company Break Free Customs and enjoying life in Sacramento.
The day we hung out with John on his backyard was a beautiful day. We shot photos, picked oranges and browsed through his bike projects. Later on John was off to LA to judge a Vans pool contest. You can take the man off his skateboard, but you can’t take take skateboarding out of him. Thank you Mr. Cardiel!
